The condition of being well regarded or honoured esteemed.  This is the most general and commonly understood definition of term respect.  In fact, the thesaurus describes respect as a courteous and polite regard for peoples feelings and respect, honour, kindness, obedience and tolerance. In religion Islam there is great role of respect. Islam states that it is the duty or responsibility of each and every individual in society to treat all human beings with respect, dignity and honour.

Respect begins with obeying the commandments of ALLAH Almighty and from this respect go to the high standards of morality that are very important in religion Islam. To be one of those people who are successful and got achievements, religion Islam requires that every individual must learn to obey ALLAH Almighty and also treat humankind, animals, our environment, the fellow Muslim with respect. Bearing this in mind that the all Muslims are one unite nation, and if any single part of the nation is in peril or in any kind of danger so too are all its parts, giving respect to each other is very essential. Religion Islam teaches us that we are held answerable and accountable not only for our actions and thoughts but for the influence, we have made over others.

Religion Islam asks us to enjoin the good and better and forbid the bad and evil. Islam binds respect to love, peace and compassion, therefore to fulfil our obligation and responsibilities we should obey ALLAH Almighty and a person must respect the reputation, honour, and privacy of others too. Term respect includes staying completely away from involving in major and minor sins like backbiting, lying, cheating, fraud slander, and unnecessary gossip.

Respect for humanity is staying away from sins and things that will create discord among the people especially among Muslims and lead towards destruction.  Respect involves loving for our brothers and sisters whatever we love for ourselves. Respect also includes treating other peoples the way we expect them to treat us and the way we hope ALLAH Almighty will treat us with love, compassion and mercy.

Major sins create barrier between humanity and cause all the misery, conflicts torment, and evil activities in this world. ALLAH Almighty commands us to stay away from all kind of sin. Evil and bad activities like backbiting and cheating, gossip as these things bring about nothing but disgrace and shame. In present time Backbiting has become so widespread that each and every person uses it as a way of expressing jealousy and anger.  Those who engage in these kinds of false activities are harming others and disobeying ALLAH Almighty. The sin is grave and for this punishment is severe, but ALLAH Almighty is Merciful and always accepts sincere repentance.

RAMI AL-JAMARAAT (STORY BEHIND THROWING STONES ON SHAITAN) (PART 2)

Shaitan

Then shaitan went to distract Hazrat Ibraheem (AS). When he appeared to Him at the first Jamaraat, Hazrat Jibraeel (AS) said to Hazrat Ibraheem (AS): “Pelt him!” so Hazrat Ibraheem (AS) threw seven stones at shaitan and he disappeared from Him. Then he again appeared to Him at the second Jamaraat. Hazrat Jibraeel (AS) said to him: “Pelt him!” so He pelted shaitan with seven stones and he disappeared from Him. Then he again appeared to him at the third Jamaraat. Hazrat Jibraeel (AS) again instructed him: “Pelt him!” so Hazrat Ibraheem (AS) pelted him again with 7 small stones and Shaitan withdrew from him. This action is imitated by all pilgrims, symbolising one’s acknowledgement that Shaitan is enemy and must be repulsed.

Hazrat Ibraheem (AS) then laid Hazrat Ismaeel (AS) down and places his knee on His neck so that he can not move. Then He faced towards the sky and called to

ALLAH Almighty that,

“Oh ALLAH! If you did not like the existence of love for Ismaeel in my heart, I seek your forgiveness.”

Then he proclaimed ALLAH’S name and placed the knife on Hazrat Ismaeel’s (AS) throat. He would rub the knife but it would not cut, ALLAH Almighty had taken the feature of cutting away from the knife. ALLAH Almighty was pleased with the genuineness of Hazrat Ibraheem (AS) and sent a white, big-eyed sheep with horns in substitute of Hazrat Ismaeel (AS) which Hazrat Ibraheem (AS) sacrificed as an alternative. This is the foundation for the offering of sacrifice (Qurbani) animals by the Hujjaj or pilgrims and by all other Muslims at the time of Eid-ul-Adha.

Note that the views of the Christians and Jews are greatly differing from Muslims with concerns to who the sacrificial son was and where the incident took place. In order to improve their honour and prestige they have attributed the sacrificial son to Hazrat Ishaq (upon him be peace) who is the forefather of the Christians and Jews rather than Hazrat Ismaeel (AS). They have also positioned the setting to be in Jerusalem than Mina. It is obvious, by looking at Biblical scriptural proof that the sacrificial son could just have been Hazrat Ismaeel (AS).

Jamarat is a Hajj ritual that involves stoning the 3 pillars that represent the shaitan. As part of this Hajj rite, the pilgrims throw pebbles at those 3 structures in the city of Mina. It also represents the refusal of man’s self and the act of casting aside one’s low wishes and desires. The ritual re-enacts the story of Hazrat Ibraheem (AS) where He sacrificed his son. For the stoning rite, the 3.4 million pilgrims from all around the world filed in crowds all the way through a multi-level structure housing the walls symbolizing the shaitan in the desert valley of Mina, outside the Holy city of Makkah.

RAMI AL-JAMARAAT (STORY BEHIND THROWING STONES ON SHAITAN) (PART 1)

Mina

The Jamaraat are 3 stone pillars which are pelted as an obligatory ritual of Hajj in emulation of the Hazrat Ibraheem (AS). They represent the three spots where Hazrat Ibraheem (AS) pelted the Shaitan (Satan) with stones when he tried to discourage him from sacrificing his son Hazrat Ismaeel (AS). The pillars are called ‘Jamaraat-al-Ula’, ‘Jamaraat-al-Wusta’ and ‘Jamaraat-al-Aqaba’.

One of the purposes of the Hajj is to remember, whereas in Mina, how a 94 years old father brought his 8 years old son here for great sacrifice. Hazrat Ibraheem (AS) had first left his wife and newborn son, Hazrat Ismaeel (AS) in the desert upon ALLAH’S command. Then while returning after 8 years to them Hazrat Ibraheem (AS) saw a dream wherein a man told Him that ALLAH Almighty wanted him to Qurbani (sacrifice) of His son. He saw the same dream for 3 consecutive nights and as He was a Prophet, his dreams were a shape or form of Wahi (Divine Instruction). He realised that ALLAH Almighty wanted him to sacrifice His son for whom his heart was overfilled with emotions and love. He went to his wife and asked her to dress up Hazrat Ismaeel (AS). Hazrat Ismaeel (AS) was overjoyed that his father had come after a long time and was taking him out for a walk.

They reached Mina. Here Hazrat Ibraheem (AS) asked His son that your father has seen a dream, what is your opinion about this? The motive for asking was not to ask his opinion in deciding whether to go with the order or not. It was to see whether his son will agree to Him to follow the order freely or will He have to by force carry out this command.

The son replied, My father, obey the order given by ALLAH Almighty. You will, INSHALLAH find me steadfast. Give my shirt to my mother as it will be a basis of comfort for her and enfold me in your own shirt. Put me face down so you cannot see my face, in case you hesitate in carrying out my slaughter.”

The earth and the witnessed that Hazrat Ibraheem (AS) tied his son and laid him down. This was very unacceptable to Shaitan so he firstly went to Bibi Hajra (upon her be peace) and asked her, “Do you know where Hazrat Ibraheem (AS) has taken your son?”  She replied,” To meet a friend.” He said, “By meet a friend he aimed to meet ALLAH Almighty. He is going to sacrifice him!” She said, “How can a father slaughter his son?” By mistake, Shaitan spoken, “It is ALLAH’S command.” On hearing this Bibi Hajra (upon her be peace) replied, “If this is ALLAH’S command, then even a hundred Ismaeels can be sacrificed in this way.”

ASK FORGIVENESS TO ALLAH ALMIGHTY

Allah Almighty

Scholars interpret tauba (repentance) to mean all of the following: (i) instant renunciation of the sin, (ii) firm intention and determination or strength of mind to not return to the sin ever again, (iii) be repentant over having committed sins, and, if the sin was against the rights of any other human being, then one mast also, (iv) compensate or recompense for it.

These are known to be the conditions of tauba, or regret. Though, in the words of ALLAH Almighty and His Messenger, Prophet (PBUH), tauba has a wider sense and meaning, and includes not only the abovementioned conditions, but also normally carrying out all the commandments and orders of ALLAH Almighty with persistence. Tauba also requires disliking and renouncing those people who reject to repent, encouraging them to regret and advising them against ignoring the exercise of repentance. So regret or repentance is the opposite of committing sins in all way, and, in its universal sense, does not consist just of renouncing the sin and be repentant over it.

Verse 2:199 of Holy Quran;

Then depart from the place from where [all] the people depart and ask forgiveness of ALLAH. Indeed, ALLAH is Forgiving and Merciful.

The word tauba is like the word taqwa, in the sense that the term is used sometimes in a particular sense where it means, “instantly stopping from disobeying ALLAH Almighty or carrying out an obligation.” though, the genuine meaning of taqwa is more common: “taking all that ALLAH Almighty has given us of children, wealth, security and happiness and all else as a means to guard ourselves from what we dislike or fright in our journey to ALLAH Almighty.”

For this trip is full of replete and pitfalls with the enemies of our soul starting with our own baser selves that provoke us towards evil and unrestrained worldly desires and ensnare us in the traps of Shatan whose mission it to prevent and avoid us from this journey to ALLAH Almighty and make us return to ruin and baseness. The essence of tauba is to return to ALLAH Almighty and to adhere to what He loves and give up that which He dislikes. Tauba is a trip from the disliked to the liked.

Verse 8:33 of Holy Quran;

But ALLAH would not punish them while you, [O Muhammad], are among them, and Allah would not punish them while they seek forgiveness.

Fellow Muslims! The most honest speech is the Book of ALLAH Almighty that is Holy Quran and the best guidance is that of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Verse 27:46 of Holy Quran;

He said, “O my people, why are you impatient for evil instead of good? Why do you not seek forgiveness of ALLAH that you may receive mercy?”
